Located just south east of New York is Long Island. Long Island is made up of four counties. Two counties, Kings and Queens are actually boroughs of the city with the remaining two counties, Nassau and Suffolk defined more as suburbs.

Long Island stands in very close proximity to Manhattan and houses more than 7,000,000 people. Although the population growth expected to continue, Long Island is currently the 17th most populous island in the world.

The climate of Long Island tends to be one of all four seasons. With a colder climate during the winter months than some of the more southern states, Long Island offers visitors and residents plenty of snow with the occasional blizzard thrown in for good measure.

The population of Long Island tends to vary based upon which county you are currently visiting. Across the board, all of Long Island tends to be more diverse than many other large cities in the United States.

The economic areas of Long Island range from those living well below the Federal poverty line to those living in million dollar homes.

Long Island New York is located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of mainland New York City. The island contains two New York City boroughs, Brooklyn and Queens. Long Island is the largest island in the continental United States. You can get to the New York City mainland from Long Island by way of several bridges or tunnels.

Long Island has a wide range of citizens from working middle class people to very affluent and wealthy people. Because of the beautiful beaches and desired northeastern United States climate, many celebrities and famous people own houses on Long Island and vacation there during the summer months. The Hamptons, located on the farthest eastern part of the island is a well known affluent area where sightings of famous people occur on a daily basis.

Long Island is full of activities for the young and old. Since the island is 150 miles long and 23 miles wide at its widest place, it offers numerous beach and water activities. You can enjoy tennis, shuffleboard, volleyball and basketball all beach side. Boating, fishing, and golf are very popular sports on the island. There are various amusement parks and entertainment centers throughout the island offering arcade games, paintball, skating rinks, and bowling. You can also enjoy fine wine tasting and tours of the wineries located here.

The Long Island Railroad and Bus System makes traveling around the island easy for both residents and visitors. Long Island offers beautiful landscape, beaches, and endless opportunities for entertainment for anyone that visits.
